In May 2023, Blake and Josie received a notice from the IRS requesting documents to support the claims made on their 2021 tax return. After receiving the notice, the couple felt anxious about the numbers and suspected an error, but they were unsure how to address it. Because of this uncertainty, Blake reviewed their 2021 taxes and remembered that they purchased Audit Defense for that year! After this discovery, Josie immediately went to the TaxAudit website and reported the notice they received. The couple was relieved they did not need to handle their tax issues alone!
That same day, the couple's Case Coordinator, Bella, introduced herself, requested the necessary initial documents, and informed them that their Tax Professional would contact them shortly. Blake and Josie gathered all the required information the following day and sent it to Bella. That same day, the couple's Tax Professional, Lenka, contacted them and scheduled an appointment.
During the scheduled appointment, Lenka reviewed the notice with the couple. She found several mistakes on their tax return, including mistakenly reporting their mortgage interest for their vacation home twice. After informing the couple about the errors on their tax return, Lenka provided instructions on how to prevent these mistakes in the future. At the end of the meeting, Lenka told the couple what documents she needed for the case and the deadline for submitting them. Following the meeting, she also sent a message listing the documents required for the couple's reference in case they needed to double-check what they needed to provide.
During the following week, Blake and Josie submitted the requested documents. While reviewing the documents, Lenka also noticed that the couple had refinanced both houses in 2021 and asked how the couple used the finance money for each house. The couple explained that they used the money for home improvement projects, so Lenka asked them to provide receipts and invoices for these home improvements and provided a template for them to submit the home renovation receipts. Blake and Josie spent the next few days organizing and sending the receipts to Lenka using the template provided.
A few days after receiving the receipts, Lenka prepared the IRS response. The Quality Control department reviewed and approved it, and Lenka sent it to the IRS. She then informed Blake and Josie that it could take two to three months to hear back from the IRS.
That following month, Lenka received a recomputed notice from the IRS, which had some excellent news for Blake and Josie! Lenka's expertise and hard work saved the couple $10,000, reducing the amount owed from $15,000 to $5,000. Lenka informed them of the great news and let them know that, to close out their case, they would need to amend their state tax return. The members were more than satisfied with the outcome and asked if they could have one last meeting with Lenka to go over how to pay their tax debt online, close the case with the IRS, set up payments, and amend the state return to reflect the changes. Lenka was more than happy to help!
Through Lenka's excellent service, Blake and Josie saved $10,000, learned how to correct their mistakes, and fully understood how to accurately report their mortgage interest on future tax returns.
